826 Valencia is a tutoring center with three locations in San Francisco. The Mission Bay Center is their third location, designed by the architectural firm WRNS Studio. I was one of many artists involved in creating the space, and I designed and painted a mural (41' x 15') that centered around the theme of an 'Enchanted Forest'.
I created various sketches based upon the theme of an enchanted forest. Some of the sketch ideas that emerged included: a hazy fog with surrealistic elements; architectural spaces within trees; trees of elders; anthropomorphic trees that interact with each other.
In the final painting, I used color to make mushrooms glow and create a hazy, foggy environment. Since the width is quite wide, I created multiple focal points to keep the viewer engaged in various parts of the space.
