Jackie Sarah Brown (b. 1980, Philadelphia, PA) is a visual artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Working across drawing, painting, printmaking, and textiles, she explores everyday structures, systems, and the built environment through observation, alteration, and humor. Her background in front-end development and illustration informs her interest in visual logic, structure, and systems.

Artist Statement

My work focuses on things that are neglected, ignored, or taken for granted, particularly the systems and structures that organize everyday life. I'm interested in what happens when these systems begin to behave unexpectedly, and in the absurdity that emerges somewhere between failure and correctness.

Through drawing, painting, printmaking, and textiles, I examine the visual mechanics of structure and order, often adopting a particular point of view or following an existing logic until it begins to break down. Humor emerges through this loss of control: things can appear perfectly reasonable at first, but on closer inspection, something is not quite right.
